🚨 Trump moves to ban Anthropic from the U.S. government.

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he instructed all federal agencies to "immediately cease" the use of Anthropic’s artificial intelligence tools. This decision comes after weeks of pressure from the Department of Defense on the company, which has refused to lift the restrictions on how its AI can be used by the military.
Trump criticized Anthropic in a post on Truth Social, accusing the company of making a "disastrous mistake" by attempting to "coerce" the Department of War. Additionally, he announced a "six-month transition period" for agencies to stop using Anthropic’s technology, which could open the door for future negotiations.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also declared that Anthropic would be designated as a "supply chain risk," a status typically reserved for foreign companies deemed dangerous to U.S. national security. This designation will prohibit the military and its contractors from working with the company.
The controversy centers on the military use of artificial intelligence, as the Department of Defense seeks to modify an agreement signed with Anthropic last year to allow "any legal use" of its technology. Anthropic has expressed concern that this could lead to the use of its AI to control lethal autonomous weapons or conduct mass surveillance on American citizens.
Although the Pentagon asserts it has no plans to use AI in this way, the Trump administration has made it clear that it will not allow a civilian company to dictate how such critical technology should be used.
